It's STEM Week with Goldman Sachs at AFJ!

As part of Avenues for Justice's (AFJ) HIRE UP training and corporate partnership program, volunteer software developers and technology specialists with Goldman Sachs are currently leading a week-long boot camp on science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).

Participants have sketched designs of their own music streaming application with unique features ranging from song speed buffers to icons for favorite songs. Volunteers from Goldman Sachs are also introducing our participants to the basics of website and application design, coding languages, cyber security, and STEM-related careers. Classes are held in hybrid format, available onsite at our Lower East Side center or online to reach participants in all five boroughs. 

Goldman Sachs' STEM week represents a key post-pandemic milestone for AFJ as participants can once again connect safely in-person with their peers and Court Advocates at our community centers.

It also segues into next week’s launch of our HIRE UP Media Organizing and Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP). Our new videography training will be paired with AFJ’s ongoing programs for digital literacy, creative writing, and legal rights to give participants the tools to reach the wider public with their views and experiences of criminal justice for youth. This new HIRE UP Media Organizing project is made possible by New York Community Trust with funding from the city for SYEP.
